ITF Team Championships: Bermuda Upset Panama
The Bermuda team upset number 5 seed Panama in today’s play at the World Team Championships.
The Bermuda team was off to a quick start as solid play from Ben Jones opened the fixture with a 6-3. 6-0 win giving Bermuda a 1-0 lead in the best of 3 matches. Trey Mallory, they produced some of his best play of the tournament to defeat Panamas Luis Ching 6-0 6-1 putting Bermuda 2-0 up. In the doubles, Mallory partnered with Cooper and got off to a good start by winning the first set 6-3 only to lose the second and hard fought set 5-7. In the third set match tie-break, Team Bermuda was unable to fight off Panama and lost 8-10 but still giving Bermuda the overall win at 2-1.
Next up will be number 7 seed Jamacia.
